A Halcyone Maker field guide
Turn a 3D character into a 2D illustration
Every Halcyone character can be 3D or a 2D illustration. The 2D look keeps the same shapes, face and motion, so a sticker, an app illustration and a video all show the same character.
1. Switch the character to 2D
Open the Maker and choose a character. In Character → Look, choose 2D. The character is drawn in flat colors with ink lines along its outline, where parts meet and where an arm or a sleeve passes in front of the body.
The look belongs to the character: the stage in every tab, the option cards and the AI preview show it, and it is saved with the character. Choose 3D to switch back at any time; Undo covers the change.
2. Tune the lines
Line sets the weight of every line, from a fine pencil-like line to a bold sticker outline. At the standard settings the outline is the strongest line, and very small parts such as buttons get thinner lines automatically, so they are outlined instead of filled in.
Inner sets the lines inside the character. Lower it for a cleaner, simpler drawing; at 0 only the outline remains. Raise it to show more detail between parts.
Color chooses the line color: Ink (a warm near-black), Parts (the lines inside the character take a darker shade of each part's own color, for a softer look) or Custom (one color for every line).
- Sticker: Line around 2, Inner 0 to 0.5, transparent PNG.
- App or web illustration: Line 1, Inner 1, Parts.
- Small icon: check the result at its final size; a slightly heavier Line reads better at 64 px.
3. Export in 2D
Images and videos follow the look: PNG, Clip exports (MP4, WebM and GIF), and asset sets with icons, expression and pose images, sprite sheets and the website and app kit. GLB and the other 3D model files stay 3D, because they are models for 3D apps and engines.
Subtitles and speech bubbles in a Clip are drawn on top of the lines. Your first download is free; Plus unlocks unlimited downloads and asset sets.
4. Convert a 3D model you already have
Made a model somewhere else? Open the free 3D to 2D converter, open a GLB, glTF or VRM file (a folder or ZIP works too) and adjust Line, Inner and Color the same way. Download a PNG at 1024 or 2048 pixels with a transparent, white or colored background; transparent PNGs are trimmed to the model. It is free, needs no account, and the file is processed in your browser.
Animations keep playing in 2D, so you can pause on the pose you want before downloading. To record the motion itself as a 2D MP4, WebM or GIF, choose Record this motion in Studio; GLB Studio exports require Plus.
A glTF with separate .bin and texture files opens when you choose the files together, drop the folder or open the ZIP; Draco, Meshopt and KTX2 compressed models open too. FBX, OBJ or Blender files need exporting as GLB first (in Blender: File › Export › glTF 2.0).
Tips for a clean result
A white or very light character on a white page relies on its outline: keep Line at 1 or above, or choose a soft colored background for the PNG.
If the drawing feels busy, lower Inner before lowering Line. If it feels faint at a small size, raise Line a little and check again at the final size.
